Are they still looking for astounding GPAs or something else?
There has been gravitation towards the emphasis of internships to build an attractive resume upon entering the workforce, rather than purely focusing on academic grades. Unfortunately, many of us would have heard of nasty internship experiences, where the promised exposure is not met.
Raised on 31 August 2021 at an Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) forum on the topic of corporate policies and culture, the importance of internships in assisting people of various backgrounds seeking employment has been stressed. There is a need for those in such programs to truly learn from the experience and gain a better understanding of the sector, rather than carrying out routine tasks.
Employers should factor in the passion and values of prospective new hires rather than their productivity output or academic qualifications, as Singapore moves towards more inclusive hiring.
