“It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a… yacht?”
If you’ve never been fortunate enough to party on a yacht or fly on a private aircraft, your life is NOT about to change anytime soon. But for those of us who do have the disposable income for outlandish Mr. Burns-esque adventures, Rome-based design company Lazzarini Design Studio presents the “Air Yacht”.
Renderings of the Air Yacht, released earlier this month, reveal a design straight out of a sci-fi movie. Powered by ultralight batteries and solar panels, the Air Yacht will be constructed out of lightweight carbon fibre, and will feature a central hall kept afloat by two floating blimps filled with 400,000 cubic meters of compressed helium. The floating blimps will allow the structure to sail at an estimated 5 knots and fly at 60 knots for over 48 hours.
According to Lazzarini, the floating blimps will have 10 passenger suites between them, while the central hall will feature a master suite measuring 262 sq. feet complete with a living room, dining area and swimming pool.
Designed with private, sustainable travel in mind, the Air Yacht could be yours at an estimated price of $621 million and will take 5 years to construct upon order. Lazzarini is still searching for partners and investors; but until then we can look forward to a 24 meter model prototype which is scheduled to set “sail in the sky” later this year.
