Singapore teenager inspired by Christchurch massacre arrested for allegedly planning attack on mosques, authorities say

A teenager was arrested in Singapore for planning a terror attack on two mosques in Singapore. He was inspired by Australian who carried out the Christchurch massacre in New Zealand. In fact, he planned to attack on the anniversary of the Christchurch massacre.

According to the home affairs ministry, the boy was arrested in December and was the first one in Singapore to be detained for being “inspired by far-right extremist ideology”. The boy watched a live-streamed video of the attack in Christchurch on the two mosques and had even read the “manifesto” of the Australian attacker. Following the attacker’s footsteps, the boy wanted to drive between the two attack sites, thus he procured a vehicle to be used during the attack.

The boy bought a tactical vest online and even prepared two documents including one which had “borrowed heavily” from the document written by the Australian shooter. The document referred to the Australian shooter as a “Saint” and described the Christchurch incident as a “justifiable killings of the Muslims”. The boy also planned to live stream the whole act “mimicking” the Christchurch attack.

The boy admitted during the investigation that he could foresee two outcomes – that he gets arrested before the attack or he gets to execute his plan and later get killed by the police.

The teen will undergo a rehabilitation process involving religious, physiological, and social counseling.
